Default I must be crazy!/49

I've been around the block enough times to recognize my soul mate when I meet him. Well...he immediately brought up the fact that he's been wanting a child of his own for several years - I already have 2 (8+12yrs.).

Unexpected, to say the least, but (grab a straitjacket!) I find myself seriously considering it. I'll turn 50 in the fall!

Both of our own mom's had us at age 43 - and that was 'then'. I have excellent genes... My 95 yr old dad looks and acts like a healthy 70. My older sibs (and myself) all pass for a decade or 2 younger than we are on paper. Mom had some health issues before she went, at 91 (but heck, she'd had 6 kids, and didn't have today's knowledge about health).

I feel like if I exercise, sleep well, eat properly and add stuff like wheatgrass, prenatal vit's and other practices, like accupuncture, etc. - It could actually happen for us. I dunno...the few friends I've told don't seem to think I'm insane! Or at least they're sweet enough to humor me!!

Well....is anybody else out there THIS advanced in years?

Wink Re: I must be crazy!/49

Well, I'm not really sure. I'm 43 and really want to have a child. When I got pregnant in January I was so very happy, but just a week ago I went throught a miscarriage that was extremely painful and emotionally damaging.

I now wonder to myself if I'm not too old at my age. Drs. have a distinct "attitude" with older moms my age...I think it would be harder to find a Dr. you like and would treat you well at your age.

I would consult an OB/GYN and make sure you are aware of all the risks, also consult a fertility specialist who can not only give a second opinion to the OB/GYN but tell you of the trends in older women births...

Whatever you decide to do the quality of life for you first two children should not be impacted. Good luck!!

I'm considering just started a family at 48, almost 49. My life is just now settled enough that my maternal instincts just kicked in, really. Been married a long time, but circumstances weren't good for many, many reasons.
I feel a bit crazy to be even considering it and am completely unsure if it'll work.
