I agree that it's all up to the individual family. When our son was a newborn, I would always start the night out with him sleeping in his bassinet, but after his middle of the night nursing, he'd end up in the bed with us. When he moved to his crib, I'd still bring him in our bed around 4 or 5 in the morning when he'd wake up, so that he'd go back to sleep. When he was about 9 months, we stopped it all together. I still take a nap with him occasionally, but realize that it's for the best.
