Question Diabetic and pregnant for the 1st time

I am 37 years old, quite a bit overweight (235lbs) and diabetic (Type II, controlled with medicine and diet and exercise....supposedly, anyway) and I just found out yesterday that I am expecting my first baby. This makes it even more scary for me because I have so many health problems going into this pregnancy. It was unplanned because I am not married either, so I am just a LITTLE nervous and scared about it. I am excited and happy at the same time, though, because I have always wanted to have a child of my own. Any advice and encouragement I can get from any of you on here would be greatly appreciated!!! I look forward to getting to know you ladies!

There are several resources for women with diabetes and pregnancy.

I blogged about my pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes at Managing the Sweetness Within (Managing the Sweetness Within). You can also find information at DiabeticMommy.com and on the assorted bulletin boards at DiabetesSisters.org and TuDiabetes.com. There are also several Yahoo groups and a few other blogs around if you Google them.

Good luck! It's a lot of work, but if you are vigilant about what you eat and about going on insulin as soon as you need to, your sugars can even out and you'll have the best chance to have a healthy baby.

All best,
Lyrehca

Will I absolutely HAVE to go on insulin? I have not been on insulin before because I was only taking a pill. Thanks for those resources. I will definitely check them out.
