Question So tired

Everywhere i read they say that the second trimester is the honeymoon phase of your pregnancy and that all those awful symptoms you felt during the first trimester go away. Well, I'm 16 weeks and 4 days and i am far more tired now than i was during my first trimester. I often need a nap in the afternoon and not too long after dinner and then sleep again all night. So why then am i so tired????

Heart Re: So tired

I felt the same way when I was pregnant with my oldest son. My doctor told me when I was suffering...."remember, you are building a city in there" On the bright side though, every pregnancy is different.

Haha. I was just thinking how absolutely tired I am right now. It is almost a sleepy tired. I am 16 weeks 1 days. I decided to browse the message boards but I think I will take a nap shortly.

LOL Naps are good.....actuall naps are great. I LOVE naps. I'm about 16.5 weeks pregnant and exhausted so I totally know what your saying. Listen to your body it really does know when it comes to nap time. Thats what I tell myself daily when the laundry isn't getting done anyways.

I know exactly what you mean! I am pregnant with number 3, at 16 weeks 2 days, and am far from any "honeymoon phase"! I nap every afternoon, when my youngest goes down and am praying for them both to be in bed by 9pm so I can turn in! So you are not alone!

I too sleep an unbelievable amount! Sometimes, its all I have in me to make it through the afternoon with out a nap! By the time 5 o'clock rolls around and I have to make supper, my eyes are red and burning like crazy!! My doctor has also told me that this is quite normal. One of the books I am reading on pregnancy states that as a pregnant woman you use the same amount of energy in a day than you do if you were to run a marathon....so to get some extra work out of your partner, just remind them that you basically ran a marathon today and you simply can not make supper and they have to do it for you and your unborn child! Just teasing, but it does work sometimes....Also, during my first trimester I experienced gruelling morning sickness...or all-day sickness if you will. I have now determined what I can and can not eat. One of the things that I do have trouble with is meat...which means I am not consuming as much iron as needed. A lack in iron can make one anemic. Your doctor can determine if you are anemic by taking a blood sample. If your doctor does determine that you are anemic he or she may suggest that you take extra iron, besides your prenatal vitamin. If you do find yourself having to take extra iron, I highly suggest making sure your diet is also high in fiber so you do not become constipated! You can also simply make sure you are getting your iron by including things like; beef, peas, dried beans or apricots, potatoes, prunes (which is basically a 2-1 deal, iron and fiber in the same food!), oatmeal, spinach and lentils... Also, when taking an extra iron supplement it is also useful to take it with orange or tamato juice being they are high in vitamin C and they enhance the absorbtion of iron. Coffee, tea, antacids, bran and calcium rich foods can also interfere with the absorbtion of iron. Hopefully you start feeling more energized soon, and if it is a serious concern for you, make sure your doctor knows that your fatigue is really dragging you down and that you are really concerned about it and he or she will surely run some tests to help determine what might be the cause for it!
