Default Back and Pelvis Pain

Does anyone have any experiance of back and pelvis problems in pregnancy?

Had to go to hospital at the weekend with extreme back and pelvis pain - the doctors are referring me to a physio as they think the ligaments in my pelvis have softened. Apparantly there is a chance that I could end up with my pelvis splitting and having to walk with crutches and/or bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy (12 weeks).

Have tried paracetomal which doesnt work so the doctors at my surgery prescribed me co-codamol at a low doseage which again didnt work. The hospital gave me a much higher doseage which caused me to hallucinate so they wont prescribe me that even though it took away the pain. Have tried massage, hot baths, hot water bottles etc and nothing. Was advised to try a TENS machine but the hospital then advised me against it as it could bring on labour.

Had another appointment at the hospital yesterday and have had another referral - am there at 9am on thursday. The midwife pressed about this afternoon and I nearly punched her was in that much pain.

They have said it is DEF crutches and might even have to have a Csection due to the problems im having as they are only going to get worse apparantly.

If anyone has any other advice I would greatly appreciate it as the pain is really bad and NOTHING seems to shift it. Whether Im sat up, laid down, staying still or moving about Im still in agony

Default Re: Back and Pelvis Pain

I've had hip pain from 8 weeks on (I'm now almost 28 weeks) I've been in physio since 14 weeks to try and figure out what was causing the pain and if there was something that could be done. It's not muscular for me it's joint so unfortunately there's nothing they can do. I've been off work for the last 6 weeks (I work in a lab on my feet all day) the physiotherapist didn't want to see me doing any more damage then was already done. At this point I have crutches that I use when I go out for shopping (which at this point i don't do a lot since it hurts a ton and just doesn't seem worth it). So for the most part I sit around all day half laying half sitting. Nights are the worst, although i've discovered those wedge pillows for pregnant ladies and if i can rig it just right I can sleep halfways on my back. It allows me to get more then 30 mins sleep before i need to rotate due to the pain. I've tried everything that they will let me take in order to ease the pain but nothing works. We're on to accupuncture now to try and get some relief. I would take a day of less pain at this point, I don't care what I have to do to get it! My hope is that once I have the baby my hip will go back into position and i'll be in less pain (maybe even pain free!!!) and more mobile. I've been scheduled for a c-section due to my hip. The dr is pretty sure i would completely wreck it trying to give birth. So i only have to carry the baby to 39 weeks. Not much to celebrate but I'll take anything at this point!!

I know my story's not very uplifting, but just know that we have this time to ourselves. I know it's really grating to be in constant pain, and house bound for the most part. But we've got to find the good in it. I've decided that I'll stop focusing on the negative (my pregnancy has been full of testing little things) and start focusing on the positive (not easy to do but if i don't i might just very well lose it!!). I hope for your sake that there is something they can do, but if not just remember... We're doing this for a cause, the end product sure as hell as to be better then this!! When we hold the little babies it will all be worth it . I wish you all the best! Take this time to try and rest and do some baby related things that you may not have done. (I'm type A personality so it's almost killing me not to be able to do all the stuff I want). But that just means there are other things i can focus on.
