Re: Friends through thick and thin.
Kris, you might now this b/c of your family's history with Type 2, but women naturally have higher blood sugars then men in the AM.
This is due to the female hormones that are produced by the brain and that help our bodies to wake up. Men have different hormones that circulate to wake up their bodies in the AM that do not interfere with blood sugar levels.
That is why the protein snack before bed is so important b/c the protein helps to stabilize the blood sugars that are a result of the carbs you eat during the day.
Couple bad eating/lack of exercise/ and female hormones and you can see why I had bad blood sugar levels in the AM with Ben.

Re: Friends through thick and thin.
Another thing that is confusing...
Type 1 and Type 2 blood sugar levels that are considered in the normal range are different for pregnant women.
That's why some of the websites are confusing.

Re: Friends through thick and thin.
One last thing, Kris...I swear I'll leave you alone:
15 grams of carb = 1 carb serving.
So, a 28g of carb in 8oz serving of fruit juice = roughly 2 carb servings. I often asked if I could just use some of my carb allotment for the day on fruit juice (as long as I counted it and was honest) and the nutritionist was adamant on no juice at all.
Immediately after delivery, I was allowed to have juice and I couldn't believe how deliciously sweet it was (apple juice with no added sugar).
That is probably the one thing that I truly have never gone back to...is fruit juices.

Re: Friends through thick and thin.
Laura,
I think that the gestational diabetic diet is wonderfully healthy for any pregnant woman!!!
While you probably don't have gestational (basing that on your age; I know many "heavier" pregnant women who weighed more than me, but were much younger who never developed gestational) the healthy diet really would give you more energy even w/o the exercise!
Maybe Kris can share her diet plan with us and we could all start supporting each other and eating healthier!!!

Re: Friends through thick and thin.
Okay freaky blog alert thing...
I added this widget called Stat Counter to my blog to track who is visiting. It doesn't give names, just computer IP addresses and city/state locations...
Well, someone in a neighboring town has been stalking my blog. I can see how many times they visit over the course of several days. It also shows how many mintues they spend visiting.
This stranger visited like 4 times a day over several days for several HOURS at a time. Stat Counter also showed me which pages (I'm assuming "she") visited and what they downloaded. She downloaded a pic of my house with the house number visible!!!!
She lives in Eudora (6 miles away) and has been visiting alot. Creepy!!!
Here's my thing...I have certain blogs that I like to stalk too b/c they are absolutely beautiful and inspiring, but I always leave a kind comment so the blog owner doesn't think I'm some freaky voyeur! Does that make sense?
Blogs are public forums, so I can't stop her from lurking, but leave a comment for pete's sake. Something like, "Hi neighbor" Live in Eudora. Love your blog and think your kids are cute." Ya know?!! Something like that!

Re: Friends through thick and thin.
Val that is creepy. I wonder if it's someone you know and they are just watching it and don't know you can "see" them?

Re: Friends through thick and thin.
Oh and funny thing Val as you talk about the fruit juice as I am sitting here with my grapes, pear, and apple. I have been wanting fruit and Juice like it's going out of style.
