Default is age alone "high risk"?

WDYT? I was pregnant at 34 and got the big stamp on my file "elderly". Unfortunately I did m/c early but, I doubt I can blame age, kwim? I was pregnant again at 37 and gave birth at 38. I could have slept my days away but it was a fairly non eventful pregnancy. Sometimes it was almost like they wanted something to be wrong, even when my tests came out very good!

What are your thoughts on age "high risk"?

Certainly age alone is not considered High Risk .
"
High Risk shall be more attainable to me i'm 31 yrs old after my first baby loss 6 yrs ago due to the MNT because of severe 'brain damage and other facial deformities she had a chromsome deletion 18 p minus syndrome (short arm of Chromsome #18) after i learned of the deletion I had the chromsome test it turned out 'suprise ' I had the same deletion .

Which made my chance of having my child getting the deletion I have 50/50. One side of the 50 is the deletion the other side normal chromsomes.

When I got pregnant the 2nd time almost 6 yrs ago before it ended up in a miscarriage they assumed I would have an abnormal child after i told them my first pregnancy situation and how we both had the same chromsome deletion issue they even suggested i abort the child. So after I did find out I had a missed miscarriage the doctor who did the confirming said I would "never have a Biological Child' and that I should get some "Donor Eggs" She said if I kept trying to pg natural I will either end up with what the first baby was like or many miscarriages .

Hence to say my 4 yr old son which was my 3rd pregnancy- Normal Chromsomes - Normal Brain- Normal Everything and get this he is Way Way Smart and pretty Advance for his age !

I'm so glad you didnt stop trying! It's hard to lose but I think it would be even harder to live with "what if?"!

My first baby, a son, died during delivery due to shoulder dystocia. He wasn't "small", he was 9'8 but certainly many women have given birth w/o troubles to a child that size. After that I became "high risk" for GD, another SD situation, a mandatory c-section, etc. This time around I was treated to many more tests due to age and my prior situation. I'm thankful for allt he testing but it was so scary and caused so much anxiety, I wondered if it was worth it! I did find out I'm a cystic fibrosis carrier...thankfully DH is not. DD may very well be but, we have years to find that out.

Will you try again for a little brother or sister??

When Mr Right comes into the picture Yes since I been a single mom since my son was 6 months even though my ex and i were ttc it just seems weird because he told me if brendan din't make it we would try again.

I knew I couldn't not try even though my risk was there but I was more prepared to know what I could expect

Jen when I was pg with my son I was 26 but turned 27 before he was born I had two losses beforehand but I would assume being pg in thirty's could be the same as your pg in twenty's it could vary indeed!

Jen , they say being pregnant in your thirties is alot more high risk because your body is getting ready to go through menapause , ecspecially over 35. But Ive known plenty of woman who didnt have their first children til their 30's and 40's so they do take alot more precautions and tests when your over 35 because their are alot more things that could go wrong but it should be almost the same as in you 20's if your a healthy person!

Jamie and MommytoBrendon , Im so glad things have both worked out for you and you both have healthy children in your life.
Im dealing with a slightly highrisk pregnancy right now only because they found a bright spot on the babys heart that is calcium. But also because of my age they consider all my pregnancys high risk too so it's not just older woman. Im 18 with a 16 month old and due on feb 3rd with my second son.

Has any one else had the experience with a calcium deposit in the babys heart? We got a level 2 ultrasoudn that was normal and our down syndrome tests were normal (thats what the calcium deposit is a sign of) but without an amniocentesis they wont know for sure and I refuse one.

Boysmom13
never heard of the calcium deposit in baby heart before! you could always do genetic testing after the child is born than during pregnancy!

i had a amnino in pregnancy just because i had to have a clear mind of what to 'expect' or prepare for because i have a chromsome deletion and my first baby that i lost inherited that one from me!

So i know since i'm livable that a child like me could also be livable too with the same deletion but may be worse but less worse than what my first child was !

Wishing you good luck with it!
