Re: What is your favorite kind of stroller?
I was completely overwelmed with this decision during our registry process, the only thing I new for sure was I wanted a travel system as it was the most cost effective for what I was looking at. I finally had my BF and I sit down and each make a list of what was important to us.
The two biggest issues for us after safety of the infant carrier and base:
1) That the infant carrier did NOT latch onto the front tray of the stroller. After vacationing in Walt Disney World and checking out lots of strollers we noticed that if you stop to quickly then the carrier will tip forward, we never saw one come unlatched, but that movement towards the front with the possibility was enough for us.
2) That the stroller is light weight for me.
First off I didn't think it would be so hard to find a carrier that latched to the stroller in a manner other than the tray. We finally found an Eddie Bauer one that had a latch towards the middle of the stroller to a sturdy bar that could be removed at a later time. However while we were at the store we were approached by a mom who was using this system and steared us clear of it because of the complicated buckle on the infant carrier. The one on this particular system had the buckle latch together before securing it into the latch. (sounds good, until you're trying to do it on a squirming baby)
Then we looked at Baby Trend due to the safety ratings, but the one we picked out was discontinued so I was on the hunt again.
I don't know how I came across this one (after hours of searching and reading reviews) but we ended up with The First Years - MagnaLight Travel System. The first thing that sold me on it was that the infant carrier actually sits INSIDE the stroller. The connection point to the stroller is actually in the seat (where a toddler will sit) and there is no way it is moving or coming out of the stroller. And the best part? The stroller is only 17 pounds!!
When I found it there were only a few places carrying it because it was a new model, so I didn't have a lot of information, but it had the things we wanted. Well when we got it I was even more impressed!
Extra Features I had actually given up on finding with the other two things
-Stroller is good for weights up to 40 lbs (which was about the highest I could find) and the infant carrier is good down to 4 lbs (which we ended up needing with our baby being born 6 weeks early)
-Infant carrieris light weight also, and has a very easy adjustments for the harness (even the nurses in the NICU were impressed with it)
-Full recline in stroller
-"Kick Stand" when folded it has a couple of extra "feet" that keep it upright so it will stand on it's own with no issues
-One-hand fold (and this is true I can hold the baby and fold the stroller no problem)
-Carrier handle on one side (like luggage) so you can carry one handed when folded
-Rotating handle (which we had given up on but with me being 5' and my BF 6'-6" was something we really wanted)
-Very sturdy frame
-there are a few other items that are nice, such as an adjustable foot rest (rotates)
The only thing that I would like to see changed is a window in the back of the stroller so I can see the baby when I have the shade pulled up, but it definitely is not a deal breaker.
As you can see I am pretty happy with this one and am glad I ended up buying it. It doesn't come in a lot of colors, i think 3 or 4 options right now (shop around different places offer differnet colors) but i wanted a nuetral one so I could use it for a boy or girl. (and my BF wouldn't mind using it too)
